This book explains the components of a full teacher induction program, not just mentoring (which they see as just one part and insufficient to really retain new teachers on its own). The format of the pages is very busy, and while there is useful information here, you'll need to weed through a lot of repetition to get to it all. Wong's other book, "The First Days of School" is pitched repetitively too.

Good but needs better indexing and charts.

A good Book, but it could have used a better glossary in order to more easily find things and some organizational charts to show how things relate to each other. I found the camera confusing with its many options and no overview of basic things, for instance camera operational modes, relate to aperture which relates to fstop, exposure modes (spot, Center, matrix, etc.), focusing modes, etc. A chart which ties this together would have been most helpful. Book just regurgitates the manual with a different slant.

A very challenging read

Interesting stories but a little hard to get through

I was really excited to start reading this book. It was full of a lot of interesting stories, many of which I had never heard before. However, after a while it almost became a chore to get through the book. I appreciate the way the author grouped the stories. That helped immensely but after a while it seemed like the book turned into a series of rapid fire anecdotal blurbs. I understand the nature of this book doesn't allow for a ton of actual storytelling (as all of the things discussed are actual events) but it got tiresome after a bit. I did finish the book and I don't regret reading it in the least. Just wanted to give more of a heads up to buyers that this might not be the fastest book you have ever read.

Good story, poorly written

This is an interesting book, but very hard to get through. The grammar was very poor and would often distract me from the book. The content was quite interesting, but I found the subject manner jumped around a bit. It was quite disjointed. In the middle of a chapter, I'd be thinking, "Wait, weren't we talking about...?" But I do have to say this person did his homework. Dates and all relevant data were noted. In fact, the last 20% of this book was a bibliography (I felt a bit cheated). Overall, I think $5 was a bit over-priced for this. I would suggest to this author that an editor would be a good thing, as well as, "Watch your comma usage!"

This is a fine collector's edition as well; Zwerger has chosen not to represent the three spirits of Christmas, but merely hints at their presence in her pictures. That grounds the story of Scrooge's night firmly in the realm of the almost-real and the possible, and renders his transformation a fully believable phenomenon. Ages 10-up.

Grade 4 Up-This recording of A Christmas Carol is a pleasant way to spend a few hours during the holiday season. Although abridged, it retains the spirit and language of Dickens' original manuscript. Anton Lesser gives a superb performance as the narrator and the voices of the characters, especially when portraying the Cratchit family, the Christmas Spirits and the London dialects. All characters are easily understood. Appropriate music begins and ends each cassette. This enjoyable retelling would be especially appropriate for family listening and a special treat for English literature classes.

Possibly the best "Christmas Carol" ever

Many versions of Dickens' classic "A Christmas Carol" are actually abridgements (done more or less smoothly) but this version is complete and unabridged. Even if you think you are familiar with the book you may find upon reading this one that you previously had read a shortened version! The completeness of this volume would be reason enough to add it to your library, but the quality of the pages, typeface, and above all the lovely illustrations scattered throughout further commend it. I have bought copies for all 3 of my grown children--because every family deserves to own a complete version of this classic story and this one is the best I have ever seen.

Read the book the way Dickens wrote it..........

I hope all readers take time to read A CHRISTMAS CAROL in the original language Dickens used in the 1840's. Dickens' language remains humorous, descriptive and insightful and not inaccessible to most modern readers especially with the use of a good glossary. This is a great read aloud for families at Christmas time and also a great introduction to Dickens and other Victorian writers. Don't settle for an abridged version. Read this masterpiece the way it was intended

Beautiful Volume

I collect "A Christmas Carol" and this is a particularly lovely volume. The illustrations are wonderful and the overall quality, printing, binding and paper, is terrific. This is definitely in my top three favorites of all the different versions I own.
